Voices Of Our City Choir Earn Golden Buzzer On America's Got Talent

The Voices Of Our City Choir earn the first golden buzzer of the season with their inspiring performance on America’s Got Talent. This incredible group was formed to help combat homelessness in the San Diego area. Through music, they offer members the chance to truly shine in their personal and professional lives. On their website, The Voices Of Our City Choir describe their unique program. “Professional musicians, staff and volunteers provide a safe space each week for music making – this is our “outreach” without it feeling like outreach. We offer the unsheltered community the space and opportunity to connect with themselves through the healing power of group singing, songwriting and guitar workshops.” Today, they are taking their talents all the way to the America’s Got Talent stage for an unforgettable audition. The group belts out the words to an original song titled ‘Sounds Of The Streets’ and it moved the entire theater. “The words of the song were very special. They were so perfect for you guys. I think we need more people like you,’ said new judge Sophia Vergara. But it was host Terry Crews who was overcome with emotion after the performance. He walked onto the stage and down to the judge’s table. “What they did today has moved me to this point right now.” That’s when he reached down and pressed the golden buzzer sending Voices Of Our City Choir straight through to the live shows. I cannot wait to see what this inspiring group has in store.

'Bridge Over Troubled Water' Cynthia Erivo Performs Classic Ballad

Actress and performer Cynthia Erivo sings a stunning rendition of ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ on the 2020 National Memorial Day Concert. This iconic song was released in 1969 by the popular duo Simon & Garfunkel. Over the years, many artists have lent their voices to this tune with notable performances from Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin and Andrea Bocelli. There is no doubt that this song has truly stood the test of time. It’s combination of difficult notes and poignant lyrics make it a one powerful number to perform. “When you're weary, feeling small When tears are in your eyes, I'll dry them all (all) I'm on your side, oh, when times get rough And friends just can't be found Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down” The talented Cynthia Erivo is best known for her lead role in the Broadway musical The Color Purple and her portrayal of Harriet Tubman in the 2019 film, Harriet. Over the years, she’s received numerous accolades including a Tony Award, a Grammy Award and multiple other award nominations. There is no doubt that Cynthia is a gifted vocalist and hearing her beautiful rendition of ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ is absolutely amazing. As we walk through challenging times, it is always important to remember that you are never alone. This is truly a performance that you don’t want to miss from an artist who you will be hearing about for decades to come.

Acoustic Rendition Of 'God Bless America' From Country Singer Karen Waldrup

Rising country artist Karen Waldrup performs an awe-inspiring acoustic rendition of ‘God Bless America.’ As we walk through these troubling times, it’s more important than ever to come together and help one another. 'God bless America, land that I love Stand beside her and guide her Through the night with the light from above From the mountains to the prairies To the oceans white with foam God bless America, my home sweet home’ Karen is described as “a triple threat musician, songwriter and recording artist known for her thrilling performances and nostalgically new style of country music.” Today, she is lending her vocals to ‘God Bless America’ for an acoustic performance for Country Rebel’s Fireside Sessions. As she stands on her own, Karen truly makes you feel the weight of every single word. It definitely takes a talented voice to pull off a hard song like this, but Karen belts it out perfectly. It is obvious that she has a passion for singing and she is using those God-given skills for the entire world to hear. And as soon as she started to sing, I knew this was going to be a rendition to remember. There are a few tricky notes in ‘God Bless America’ and your voice has got to be nearly perfect to pull of this patriotic tune. But, I think we can all agree that Karen did this song justice. Who else was singing along as she hit that iconic note at the end of the song?

'The Longest Time' Gets Quarantine Makeover From Virtual Choir

In this creative video, a virtual choir gives the song ‘The Longest Time’ by Billy Joel some new quarantine lyrics. “I have been at home in quarantine, stopping spread of COVID-19 What else could I do? Don’t want this virus from you! I haven’t left here for the longest time Exercise by jogging ‘round my room, online meeting taking place on Zoom Though this is safer, we’re out of toilet paper! We haven’t left here for the longest time” The two responsible for adapting the new lyrics to this Billy Joel classic are Nicholle Andrews and Zach Timson. And many members from over a dozen choirs in Canada helped contribute their beautiful voices to this project. “Wishing everyone the best of health from Vancouver, Canada!” the caption of the video reads. “Stay home, stay safe, and keep singing!” The people in the video go on to sing about how self-isolation is helping the nation, because it is flattening the curve. They also sing about how far you should distance yourselves from others if you leave the house: “If you choose to venture out today, stay at least 2 meters away!” The song sure is catchy and will make you want to sing along with their new lyrics! “I had hopeful thoughts at the start. I said to myself – I will do my part! Washing hands, not touching my face! I long for your embrace and it’s all that I hope for. It’s my job to do all the right things. Social distancing as I sing! I miss you so bad! But I think you ought to know that I intend to stay here for the longest time!” “Not only are the vocals perfect, but those lyrics are GENIUS!” writes one person on YouTube. “A lot of bad things happened because of COVID 19. This is definitely not one of them,” comments another person. “It’s so brilliantly written and sung. Definitely made my day.” What a beautiful thing to hear all of these talented voices coming together to make such a creative song and video!

Trio Of Firefighters Earn Standing Ovation With 'Leave A Light On'

Three firefighters stunned the judges with their moving rendition of ‘Leave A Light On’ during the first round of auditions on Britain’s Got Talent. Oxford firefighters Christian, Adam and Andy make up this talented trio with a gift for singing. Today, they are taking their dreams all the way to the big stage as they perform for the judges on Britain’s Got Talent. And their rendition of Tom Walker’s ‘Leave A Light On’ definitely struck a chord with the judges. “If you look into the distance, there's a house upon the hill Guiding like a lighthouse to a place where you'll be Safe to feel our grace 'cause we've all made mistakes If you've lost your way I will leave the light on” After the performance, the trio received a standing ovation with judge David Williams singing their praises. David was even more impressed when one of the men demonstrated a fireman’s lift by picking him up and throwing him over their shoulder. But it was Simon Cowell’s remarks that truly hit home. He said, “I always like actually, people who have regular jobs who want to do something else and worked hard to do it and you tick every box on that. This is what makes this show so special. So, it’s a really good audition well done.” The trio easily earned a ‘yes’ vote from all four judges and will be returning to the next round of competition. What did you think of this literally uplifting audition from these men?

Where's My Country Song' Honors Moms and Hard-Working Women Everywhere

In this touching video, Rita Wilson sings ‘Where’s My Country Song’ which honors moms and hard-working women everywhere. “Thirty minutes till my driveway, so tired, been a long day I’ve had a lifetime of worry, this ain’t my first rodeo Stack of bills on the front seat, half empty tank of gasoline A little one waiting up for me, I turn on the radio” As the song progresses, scenes of women hard at work flash across the screen. There are images of women teaching, working in factories, doing yard work, working at restaurants, doing housework, tending to children and farm animals, and many other situations as well. Even though the women are all doing different jobs at different points in time, one thing remains the same: they are all hard at work trying to provide for their families. What an inspiring video to help us all remember the wonderful women in our lives and the hard work that they do for their families! Proverbs 31: 10-31 10 A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. 11 Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. 12 She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. 13 She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands. 14 She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar. 15 She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants. 16 She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. 17 She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. 18 She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night. 19 In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers. 20 She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy. 21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet. 22 She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple. 23 Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land. 24 She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes. 25 She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. 26 She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. 27 She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. 28 Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 29 “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” 30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. 31 Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

Virtual Choir Performs 'For The Beauty of the Earth'

In this beautiful video, a virtual choir performs the song ‘For the Beauty of the Earth.’ “For the beauty of the earth, for the beauty of the skies, For the love which from our birth, over and around us lies, Lord of all, to thee we raise, this our grateful hymn of praise. For the beauty of each hour, of the day and of the night, Hill and vale, and tree and flower, sun and moon and stars of light, Lord of all, to thee we raise, this our grateful hymn of praise.” The video starts off with the conductor on screen. Then, many faces appear as they all start singing their different parts of the song. They all sound so beautiful together! “This is our little song of praise and thanksgiving to God Almighty who created all things for the good of the human race,” writes the virtual choir about this video. “It is in this difficult time of the COVID-19 pandemic that we would like to express our solidarity to the victims and their loved ones, those affected and those who contribute by sacrificing their thoughts, energy, resources and time, some as far as risking their personal health to fight the war against this worrying pandemic.” The talented group continues with saying that they are all from different walks of life and hope that this video blesses everyone who sees it. “We pray that these voices from our own homes may bring positive energy to those who hear them as we remind ourselves to give thanks to the gifts that we often take for granted, the gift of creation, the Mother Earth, our daily needs, education, jobs, family members and friends. We come from all walks of life (students, parents, children, workers) from all over the world that share the common passion for music and we believe that through music, we can spread the message of hope, encouragement and love, especially in this time of crisis.” What an amazing and touching rendition of this beautiful classic! Let your heart be uplifted by this wonderful music.

Lock Your Refrigerator Door

Resisting temptation can be really tough-- especially when we're in lockdown with a lot of time on our hands. Sometimes it takes drastic measures-- like locking our refrigerator door! :) But those of us who don't struggle with physical temptation aren't off the hook either-- "garbage in garbage out" applies to our minds and hearts too! Thankfully, there's always a "way of escape" :)

Wrongly-Incarcerated Man Sings 'Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me' On AGT

After spending 37 years in prison, Archie Williams delivered an unforgettable performance of ‘Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me’ on America’s Got Talent. In 1983, Archie was convicted for attempted murder, aggravated rape and aggravated burglary and sentenced to life in prison without parole. But the 22-year-old was innocent. “Three people testified that I was at home, but they wanted somebody to pay. I was sentenced to life and 80 years without the possibility of parole or probation.” He spent 37 years in prison for a crime that he never committed. During that time, Archie never gave up on his dream of singing. He said that he would watch AGT in prison and tell himself that he would be on that stage one day. In 2019, with help from the Innocence Project, Archie was exonerated of all charges and freed from prison. Today, he’s standing on the America’s Got Talent stage and singing an inspiring rendition of ‘Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me.’ “Don't let the sun go down on me Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see I'd just allow a fragment of your life to wander free But losing everything is like the sun going down on me” After this stunning act, everyone was on their feet for Archie. The judges were visibly moved. Simon Cowell said, "I will never, ever listen to that song the same way after you sang that. This is an audition I will never forget for the whole of my life, Archie." The other judges agreed and Archie was voted through to the next round. We are all so excited to see what the future has in store for this incredible performer!

A Cappella Choir Stuns With 'The Sound Of Silence'

The a cappella voices of VOCES8 performs a stunning rendition of ‘The Sound Of Silence.’ Simon & Garfunkel originally released this song in 1964. Since that time, many artists have lent their voices to the tune. One of the most well known covers comes from the rock band, Disturbed, in 2015. A Cappella group Pentatonix recently released their own version their own version and it skyrocketed in popularity. Today, we’re hearing an entirely new rendition and it’s absolutely amazing. “Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence” VOCES8 is an incredibly talented a cappella choir. On their website, the group describes their mission. “The British vocal ensemble VOCES8 is proud to inspire people through music and share the joy of singing.” They’ve performed all around the globe with some of the biggest names in the industry. Today, this group is taking on ‘The Sound Of Silence’ and it’s one performance you don’t want to miss. And to make this arrangement even better, the entire track is performed a cappella. W hen you perform a cappella, every sound that you hear comes from a human voice. There are no instruments or background music. It takes many hours of arrangement and practice in order to perfect a performance like this but VOCES8 pulls it off flawlessly. What did you think of this unique rendition of ‘The Sound Of Silence?’
