Judge Caprio Dismisses Charges When He Learns Why Vet is In Court

Judge Caprio is making the internet rounds for his soft spot for those down on their luck. He knows just how to spot the ones who need a hand up. Caprio’s caring side doesn’t disappoint when he finds out why this vet is in court. “The smallest thing can change someone’s life,” Caprio shared with Stars and Stripes. “[My father’s] mantra was help people when you can. We were taught in life that it’s not enough to climb the ladder of success.” You have to lead down the ladder “so others can follow in your footsteps.” A Vietnam veteran stood before Judge Caprio and shared that he was pleading guilty to his parking ticket but wanted to explain the situation. As a frequent patient at the local Veterans Affairs Hospital (V.A.) the man like others, had nowhere to park. Knowing he was parking illegally, the veteran explained that for years they had parked on these side streets thinking the parking authorities were deliberately giving them a “break”. Unfortunately, that wasn’t to be and the man was given a $100 fine. Thankfully for the veteran, he was standing before Judge Caprio who is a veteran himself and known for his generous rulings especially towards veterans. But his appreciation doesn’t stop there, Caprio shares his soft spot for Vietnam veterans in particular. “I have a particular affinity for all veterans,” he said. “But especially those who served in Vietnam. I remember how the vets were adored in World War II, and how they were scorned when they came home from ‘Nam. It’s a sad chapter in our history.” What a blessing Judge Caprio is to those who are in difficult situations. Most people have had a tough season in their life, perhaps some have led to a scuffle with the law. It’s hard for those situations to right themselves. Judge Caprio’s willingness to listen and determine when the situation requires leniency is always inspiring to how we should treat others!

Tori Kelly Sings Colors Of The Wind' At Disney's Mickey Mouse 90th Birthday

We are loving this performance of “Colors of the Wind” by Tori Kelly for Disney’s celebration of Mickey Mouse’s 90th birthday! The song is a much beloved ballad from the Disney princess film “Pocahontas”. Tori Kelly did an amazing job performing “Colors of the Wind” for the magical television special “Mickey’s 90th Spectacular”. Before beginning her performance, Tori dedicated the song to our favorite mouse couple, Mickey and Minnie who were seated just offstage. Opening the famous Disney princess song verse with just vocals and an acoustic guitar, Tori’s voice beautifully capture the emotion of the song. As she continued to sing through the piece, Mickey and Minnie got up for a celebratory couple’s dance across the stage floor. For all those Disney lovers out there, it was a truly sweet moment between the Big Cheese and his gal. On a more serious note, “Colors of the Wind” is a stunning reminder that we are all uniquely and wonderfully made by God and should love and respect one another. What a powerful message for our world and such a fitting song for Tori who has shared in past interviews that she felt pressured to try fitting a music industry mold that wasn’t who God created her to be. We think she’s right where God planned for her to be! “You think the only people who are people Are the people who look and think like you But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger You'll learn things you never knew, you never knew” We think this is one of the most beautiful of the Disney princess songs. There is something truly amazing when we take a moment to step back and appreciate the world around us as God’s creation and not a coincidence.

Sara Bareilles 'Theodosia Reprise' from Hamilton The Musical (Music Video)

Fans of “Hamilton: The Musical”, will find a heart-tugging twist in the song ‘Theodosia Reprise’ by artist Sara Bareilles. If the audio version wasn’t a nice treat enough, the Bareilles also shot an accompanying music video during the recording sessions. The song ‘Dear Theodosia’ is one of the lesser known but more touching songs from the musical Hamilton by Lin Manuel. Bareilles’ version is more of a lullabye style ballad that brings new life to the emotional song. In the recording studio Sara is joined by Lin Manuel and Alex Lacamoire who are shown sitting on the sidelines in awe of the studio performance. Although Bareilles only sings the first half of the song about the character Theodosia, the effect of her almost haunting rendition leaves the listener wanting to hear more. “She dedicated every day to you She changed my life She made my life worthwhile And when you smile I know a part of her lives on I know I can go on You have come of age with our young nation We bleed and fight for you Sometimes it seems that's all we do” For those unfamiliar with the musical, this particular song is usually sung by the character Aaron Burr, originally performed by actor Leslie Odom Jr. on the big stage. It’s a “from father to child’ ballad that highlights promises of fighting for and building a better world for their children to inherit while explaining that the child’s mother has passed away. The second half of the song (not sung here) is the same type of ballad from Alexander Hamilton to his son Philip. Sara Bareilles took this beautiful song and put her own spin on it. Her voice perfectly lends itself to this touching ballad. Even if not familiar with the Broadway hit show, listeners will cling to every note of the reprise of ‘Theodosia’ and will appreciate Sara’s display of vocal talent.

Kid Yodeler Mason Ramsey - White Christmas (Official Lyric Video)

It’s that time of year when we start to see new Christmas albums pop up and begin to get into the spirit of the holidays! Kid Yodeler Mason Ramsey is back covering a holiday classic, “White Christmas”. The song originally written by Irving Berlin in the 1940’s, is most famously known for being sung by crooner, Bing Crosby. Performed in both “Holiday Inn” and the movie of the same name “White Christmas” it quickly became synonymous with the holiday. For those in service, the song quickly gained fame in the USO shows as generations of soldiers have sacrificed their time with family for their duty to country. Mason Ramsey is building his career on a sweet vintage vibe with hat tip to Hank Williams. He’s adorable in his boy-next-door charm and talented yodeling skills. Covering classics like “White Christmas” we think Mason may be a household name this year if he isn’t already! The single cover itself is a great throwback to Christmas past complete with faux snow, tinsel, and Christmas cookies. The 12-year-old tackles the Christmas classic with strong vocals and smooth slides from note to note. He had us thinking he was an old soul trapped in a young whippersnappers body! That is until he told the reasoning behind his love of the song… “’White Christmas’ is the best holiday song and I’ve grown up listening to Michael Bublé’s version with Shania Twain. It’s also a song in Home Alone, too — my favorite movie to watch at Christmas!” Whatever gets them loving the “classics”! We’re sure that Mason will be picking up quite a few vintage holiday tunes this year and we are eager to hear them all!

Dog Travels 3,000 Miles to Reunite with Soldier Who Rescued Her

Sean Laidlaw is a soldier who was leading a bomb disposal team while he was stationed in Syria. One day, Sean found a scared, sweet pup amidst the rubble. He named her Barrie and brought her food and water and checked in on her daily. Barrie was reluctant to accept Sean’s help at first, but after a few days, she finally came around. Over the next few months that Sean was in Syria, he and Barrie grew close. He even made the pup a bullet-proof vest so she could be with him during the day. ‘When we got back to camp, she lived in my room, I looked after her, I was responsible for her. She slept in my room, I was training her, I was feeding her. ‘She stayed with me every day all day. She did jobs with me, I’d wake up, she’d come eat with me, she’d then sit in the passenger seat of my car when we drove to Raqqa.’ Sean told the Metro. Then Sean learned he’d be going home. While he was obviously excited, he was sad to leave Barrie behind! So he called an organization in Iraq who specialized in rescuing dogs from war-torn areas. Then he started raising money to bring his dog home! The organization was able to get the dog to Iraq, and flew her to Jordan, and then Paris. Each stop along the way, Barrie had to be quarantined to make sure she was healthy enough to leave that country! By the time Sean was able to meet Barrie, seven long months had passed. Sean drove 12 hours from his home in the UK to go to Paris to pick Barrie up and finally bring her home! So then, after five countries, two war zones and more than 3,000 miles, the two were finally reunited for what Sean describes as his “happiest moment ever.” Is there anything better than the unconditional love of a sweet pup?

Real-Life Disney Princesses Give Incredible Audition on Britain's Got Talent

Misstasia is a sugary sweet girl-band that are like real-life singing Disney princesses. The group took the stage to audition on Britain’s Got Talent singing ‘Part of Your World’ from ‘The Little Mermaid’ movie, but the audition almost didn’t happen when one of the original 5 members walked off just two days before the audition! The fifth member, stating she just ‘wasn’t into it’ walked away from the audition, leaving the remaining four girls in the lurch. They almost gave up. But that’s when the singers and huge Disney fans Enola Dyer, Katie Lawrence, Georgie Jackson and Rosie Hale decided to go on without her. Anyone who knows a thing or two about music knows how difficult this must have been! All the time in rehearsals and memorizing the music for 5-part harmony would be lost. They’d have to start over and relearn the song for 4-part harmony! And they’d only have two days to do it before auditioning on an international TV show! When they began singing, the judges all broke into smiles. Even Simon, although he appeared to do it grudgingly. He shared that he thought their demographic was actually toddlers, but conceded that they were very good at what they did. The singers seem to radiate pure joy and it’s hard not to be happy listening to them. So it was easy to see why every judge agreed to put them through to the next round. “We are girly girls.” Rosie, 22, said, “I think the message we want send out is that you can be any kind of princess, as long as you have fun and follow your heart.”

Hillary Scott, Tori Kelley, Kirk Franklin Wow Audience At CMT 2018 Awards

Fans were treated to a truly special performance when a blend of country, pop, and gospel artists joined forces. Female vocalists Hillary Scott and Tori Kelly took the stage at the CMT Artists Of The Year Event. Joined by gospel powerhouse Kirk Franklin and choir midway through their medley performance. She grew up on a side of the road Where the church bells ring and strong love grows She grew up good She grew up slow Like American honey” Opening with “American Honey”, Hillary Scott (Lady Antebellum) began the performance with Tori Kelly joining in for the second verse. The two continued to duet the popular Lady Antebellum song before transitioning into the chorus of Kelly’s “Never Alone”. “I've cried many rivers I've walked through some pain I've seen my world crumble And I've carried the shame But I know somebody, He calls me His own I can hear heaven singing out Oh-oh-oh, you're never alone Oh-oh-oh, you're never alone” As they continued the inspirational song, the backdrop opened to reveal a gospel choir and none other than gospel great, Kirk Franklin bringing God’s truth in spoken word: “There’s not a hole too deep that God’s love is not deeper still!” But the best was yet to come when the trio broke into fan favorite, “Oh Happy Day”. The crowd was quickly on their feet clapping and singing along! We were ready for some church! “Oh happy day (oh happy day) Oh happy day (oh happy day) When Jesus washed (when Jesus washed) When Jesus washed (when Jesus washed) When Jesus washed (when Jesus washed) He washed my sins away (oh happy day) Oh happy day (oh happy day)”

Her Ex Left Her With Parking Tickets But Judge Caprio Knew Better

When a frazzled looking mom wheeled a stroller into the courtroom and towed small kids alongside her, Judge Frank Caprio joked, asking her “Are these your lawyers you have with you? Who are they?” The woman, who admitted to being a little nervous, asked for more time to pay a parking ticket. The judge looked through her file and noticed several other past due tickets. When he pointed them out to the young woman, he got a sense that more was going on than meets the eye. Judge Frank Caprio has gained internet fame for his fair court rulings and understanding demeanor though he insists, “I’m not here on the court to be an entertainer . . . my primary role is to do justice.” Judge Caprio is the Chief Municipal Judge in Providence, Rhode Island. And while he’s aware the cameras are rolling in his courtroom, he knows that the real reason he is there is to do his job. The young woman merely stated that her children’s father got the parking tickets. She didn’t ask for the tickets to be dismissed or claim that she shouldn’t be responsible for paying them. She initially simply asked for more time to pay. The judge invited the woman’s 7-year-old daughter to the stand to help him make his decision. He asked the young girl if he should fine her mother $175 or not. The girl thought he meant ‘find’ her money and said, ‘yes’ until the kindly judge explained what he meant. Judge Caprio, who is known for being kind in addition to being fair, told the woman he wasn’t going to make her pay the tickets, and the woman broke down crying in relief. The judge shared that though the woman hadn’t said so, he suspected the children’s father wasn’t “meeting his obligations as he should be.” “Thank you,” the emotional mom said, wiping tears from her face as they streamed down her face. The world could use more heartwarming gestures like these, am I right?

Quick-Thinking 13-year-old Rescued Himself After Shark Attack

Keane Webre-Hayes was just a typical teenager wading in the ocean with his friend before the unthinkable happened. He was diving for lobsters just off the California shore when suddenly something slam into him. “I feel something tackle me and it took my mask off,” he explained. “At first I thought it was [my friend] Noah trying to mess with me, trying to scare me. Then I come up, my mask is off, I’m all confused, and then I look over.” That’s when he realized it was a shark. What the 13-year-old shark attack victim did next saved his life! “My wetsuit is all ripped up, and blood is starting to go into the water. I look up, and I see Noah’s snorkel still in the water, so I know it wasn’t Noah, and then just by instinct I start swimming to that kayak as fast as I can and I’m screaming for help, help, help … Shark! … I swim to the kayak, I pull myself on, and I tell the guy we have to get to shore.” Even injured, Keane kept his wits about him, and so he had made his way quickly to a nearby kayak. Getting himself out of the water so quickly is what saved his life. “It’s lucky we got him out of the water because once we threw him up on the kayak and started heading in, that’s when I looked back and a shark was behind the kayak,” shared kayaker Chad hammel. Fortunately the kayakers were nearby when the attack happened. Keane’s mom was nearby on the phone with his dad when she had an ominous feeling wash over her. “I was on a cliff above the beach, I was on the phone with my husband, the sun was coming up and it was kind of an eery feeling out there … In the background I started hearing probably just the worst screams I’ve ever heard in my life,” she told People. Little did she know, these sounds were her own son calling out in pain. Once the kayak made it to shore, everyone started yelling to get others out of the water. “Shark! Get out of the water!” they yelled, sending Keane’s mother running down the beach to make sure her son was ok. The kayakers and lifeguards rushed to get Keane medical treatment. Keane was in critical condition when he arrived at the hospital. More than 1,000 stitches later, doctors were proud of the work they had done, but said the boy had a long road to recovery ahead of him. While he was in the hospital, his spirits were lifted by visits from professional surfer and fellow shark attack survivor Bethany Hamilton, and by star skateboarder Tony Hawk. The smiling teen shared that he’s eager to get back in the ocean, and returned to school just two and a half weeks after his traumatic accident to share his inspiring survival story with his classmates.

How Alzheimer's Affects Struggling Families

Not many families are left untouched by the effects of Alzheimer’s Disease. The Forbes family is battling a common crisis as exhausted caregivers while this Navy vet fights Alzheimer’s in their home. Robin and daughter Haley Forbes lovingly care for Robin’s 82-year-old father, Jim. The U.S. Navy veteran is battling Alzheimer’s. The pair return home after work and school to pick up the care of Jim who is wheelchair bound and struggles with daily tasks. After Jim’s diagnosis, he and Robin’s mother moved in with her. Taking the day shift, Robin’s boyfriend Desi cares for her parents while she works. She and Haley split mornings and evenings. It’s exhausting for them all. “I worry about my Mom, then like, she has to worry about me. So I wish there was more of a balance.” Haley shares. As more Baby Boomers are aging, their families are becoming caregivers unable to afford sound facility care. While the opportunity to care for a parent is something that many adult children expect and dutifully take on, the burden of full-time care is overwhelming. “I worry about it all day long at work. It’s draining, it’s emotionally stressful.” Robin knows that she isn’t alone. More and more families are taking on the care of their aging loved ones, and many are fighting Alzheimer’s grip on their parents. The TODAY show shares that there are 16 million family caregivers and of them, 60% suffer high emotional stress and 40% suffer from depression. But what is more shocking is the 250,000 children under 18 who are also stepping in as caregivers. Haley told host Maria Shriver, “I don’t wanna always ask my Mom for help, because that’s always putting so much on her plate.” Robin broke down in tears hearing her young daughter vocalize her worries. “As her mom, I don’t want her to ever have to worry about stuff like that. I want her to worry about being a kid. I don’t want her to think that uh, it’s ‘putting too much more on my plate’.” Because of caring for her parents, Robin shares that she doesn’t remember the last time she was able to go to the doctor for herself. “I don’t have time.” It’s something that many caregivers agree on as they feel the weight of the care overwhelms them. Many of the caregivers are women who also have to work outside of the home, living paycheck to paycheck to afford their monthly bills. Of course, the time being a blessing to parents who need us is not overlooked. While caregiving is exhausting work, there is something truly heroic about those who step up to be there for their loved ones. Seeing a family member age is never easy and with a disease like Alzheimer’s more adult children are wishing they had made more time in their schedules before their parents were ill. “Take advantage of the time that you have with your loved one. There is some guilt of not spending time with them when we had the opportunities.”

Divine Intervention Sends Dying Baby to Man's Porch Steps

Carlos Rodriguez wasn't supposed to be at his house that Monday. But thanks to divine intervention, this godly man was home when a neighbor in dire need rang his bell. And what he did next made him a hero. He'd never even been officially trained, but he prayed and performed CPR in front of Jesus portrait, and it saved a dying baby's life! Carlos had stayed home from work that week because he had family visiting from out of town. Because of that, Carlos would be at his house when he normally wouldn't have been.  Down the street, Carlos' neighbor ran out of her home screaming. Then she ran straight to Carlos' home, running past several other houses. This was not a coincidence--it was divine intervention!  What Carlos saw when he opened the door would haunt him for months afterward. His neighbor was standing on his porch in hysterics clutching her lifeless baby. All the baby's mother could utter to Carlos was one word, "water." She had left her 13-month-old son alone in the bathtub for just a moment, only to return and find him floating."He was completely lifeless. His body was a different color. He was blue. He had no pulse."  Carlos rushed the baby into the house, silently praying as he started administering CPR. He'd never received official training but had self-taught himself CPR skills by watching YouTube videos when he had his first child. “I knew enough,” he said. After a few moments, the baby started to breathe. Shortly after, the first responders would arrive. They all agree that Carlos had saved the baby's life. "It was amazing. It was awesome just to look him in the eye and know that he’s alive," said Rodriguez. "It’s probably one of the greatest moments in my life." It wasn’t until after the fact that Carlos realized where he'd ended up taking the drowned baby. He’d performed CPR in front of a portrait of Jesus Christ. “God definitely had a big part in this,” Carlos said. "Later I asked her, 'why did you come to my house', and she said that God guided her here."  Carlos was terrified by what almost happened to that poor baby. "I have three little kids," Carlos said, "and just to have them lifeless and not know if they’re going to come back, it’s so scary." The idea tormented Carlos so much that he struggled with fear of giving his own children baths for a while after the incident. Then he became inspired to use the traumatic events for good. He shared his story, and 20 of his friends and family members went to get CPR certified! Now he's encouraging everyone to become CPR certified. "I think it’s just so important to raise awareness about knowing how to do CPR, because like it happened to me. You just never know when you’re going to be in a position where you have to save a life," Carlos said. “Somebody could literally come to your door with a baby that’s lifeless and ask you for help,” he said.

Joanna Gaines Takes Jenna Bush On A Tour Of Her Family's Farmhouse

HGTV “Fixer Upper” star Joanna Gaines is back! Taking The Today Show’s Jenna Bush on a tour of the Gaines’ farmhouse, Joanna quickly reminds us how much we miss “Fixer Upper”. It’s been seven months since the beloved home decor guru stepped out of the spotlight. In that time, Chip and Joanna Gaines have welcomed a new member into their home, baby boy Crew Gaines. The dynamic couple didn’t hang up the towel completely when they stopped filming “Fixer Upper”, instead they turned their focus heavily to their growing family and opened Magnolia Table restaurant in hometown Waco, Texas. Apparently, it was the perfect move for their family and the children are loving having a new sibling. "They're obsessed with him, and it really is one of those things where I have to fight to hold him," Joanna shared with TODAY. As Joanna welcomes TODAY host, Jenna Bush, on a tour of her home the vibe is instantly welcoming and comforting. Joanna explained that feeling of comfort is intentional: “This is going to sound so dorky, but it's like a big hug, I just love being home. I feel like everywhere I look there's a story or there's a memory.” Early in her career designing homes for clients, Joanna realized that there is no “perfect” home, instead the space needs to be functional and make others feel welcome. Each piece in the Gaines’ home tells a little story about their life together. One of their favorite pieces is a vintage street sign that the couple found on their honeymoon and featured right next to it is a giant clock missing it’s time hands. “This old clock, one of my favorite pieces in the house,” said the mother of five. “I think anytime I'm home with the kids, time kind of stands still. And I feel like just always remember just what a gift time is.” There is no question that this mother of five has a great outlook on her life with family and balancing a successful career with husband, Chip. Living intentionally, Joanna and Chip Gaines are setting an example for other families on how to have a space you love because you loved the family in the space.
