This grandma is moved to tears after she hears her surprise birthday wish on the radio. The video’s upbeat opening makes you root for the grandmother to start jamming out as she enters the car with her grandson, David Goodings. “Nan,” as she is referred to in the video, rides along peacefully through the town. The radio is on and seemingly playing normally until static begins to upset the signal. Only the static is prerecorded and audio begins playing talking about Nan. The voice, likely of the grandson driving. David begins to speak. He says, “We interrupt this broadcast to bring you some breaking news. Please listen very very carefully.” Nan is listening but is unresponsive initially. The voice continues. “Breaking news, just in! Iris Howard is celebrating her birthday.” Then she reacts with smiles and her grandson also laughs. The recording goes on to give compliments to Nan, saying she is loved by people and making mention of this birthday being her 86th. Then birthday messages play of different loved ones offering kind words for her. She can’t help but react to the big blessing playing through the radio. The emotion forms as joyful tears as she continues to ride and listen to the wonderful messages. Plenty of people had many things to say about Nan, clearly showing that she has had an impact on all of them. Most of the four-minute video clip is of people speaking fondly of her. After all was said and done, David and Nan talked about the experience. He smiled while talking to his crying Nan. “We just wanted to show you how much you mean to us.” At the end of the video he played “Happy Birthday” for Nan. The video has been noticed by a good number of people online including ITV News who wrote this in the comment section, “Hi David, this video is brilliant. Would you be happy for ITV News to use it on our Facebook page with a credit to you? Marcus.” Another company called The Sun wrote, “David you legend. You've made our week on the video desk here. We'd love to use [this] on The Sun's site and FB - obviously with a credit. Would that be OK?” This video is a great reminder to love on our elders, parents, grandparents, those who came before us and taught us what we know today. What would we be without them?

When God created dogs he broke the mold; no other creature on this planet is as energetic, mischievous, fun-loving, and loyal. Dogs also happen to be smart, intuitive, and curious. So it’s no surprise when their curiosity gets them into a mishap from time to time, especially when a curious dog steals a reporter’s microphone on live TV. A Golden Retriever by the name of Martin was living his best life in Russia when a weather anchor happened to be reporting live at a park. The scene was set for a cloudy, gloomy day of rain and by the looks on the news anchor’s face, it seems her viewers would be expecting more gray skies. Or maybe she opted to give a live update outdoors because she wanted to take advantage of warmer temperatures. Either way, her presence in the park was too much and the whole situation seemed to be begging for a good game of fetch! Martin couldn’t help but take advantage of the moment. After all, the microphone was obviously a big chew toy, right? The fluffy and mischievous Golden Retriever bounds into the shot, leaps up onto the weather anchor, and makes a grab for the mic before flashing out of the scene and trotting off with his newfound toy. But that scene isn’t as nearly as priceless as the studio reporter’s face back at the station. The woman’s look seems to say, “Did that just happen on camera? Did a dog seriously cut into our weather segment and steal the show?” The cameras are still rolling as the cameramen turn back to the chase unfolding live scene in the park as the weather anchor abandons the show to run after Martin. She eventually coaxes the ‘camera hog’ of a dog to give the microphone back but not before he takes a nibble or two off the colorful windscreen covering the microphone. Either way, it appears Martin got what he may have wanted the whole time, his own segment and 15 seconds of fame. Or perhaps he merely wanted a good rub down. We will never know but I am sure the entire news team rejoiced when they were able to get back on track with the weather and a new furry reporter! “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.” Philippians 4:4

Jaxon, an 8-year-old, saves his sister’s life, and it’s all thanks to John Cena! Yes, you read that right. Celebrity professional wrestler, John Cena, appeared on a show on Nickelodeon that Jaxon remembered watching almost a year before his sister’s close-call. Nervous about the kids in your life having too much screen time? Well, some of that screen time may pay off, and sometimes, even save a life! Jaxon noticed his 20-month-old little sister choking on a piece of food while in the car. He was able to save her thanks to an episode of “The Substitute” he saw on Nickelodeon. “The Substitute” is similar to the classic hidden-camera prank shows, but this time, the kids get pranked during what they think is a regular day at school. Different celebrities are disguised with special effects makeup and pose as a substitute teacher, often with a quirky personality. John Cena pretended to be a goofy CPR instructor while teaching common safety procedures. “I saw my sister’s face purple and red. So, I started patting her on the back and told my dad to pull over,” said Jaxon. Jaxon’s quick thinking got noticed by national news outlets. And more importantly to Jaxon, it was noticed by John Cena. John recorded a personal video message to Jaxon to congratulate him. His heart-warming message will make you feel as proud as his parents. In no time, his town honored him with a parade of firetrucks because Jaxon wants to be a firefighter one day. The local community didn’t stop there. The mayor gave Jaxon an official commendation recognizing his bravery that saved his sister. Jaxon deserved all of that celebration and more!

Feel the power of faith through song as Idol contestant Willie Spence sings ‘The Prayer’ duet with Katharine McPhee. Both performers decided to dedicate the performance to lost loved ones in heaven, making the video even more emotional. ‘The Prayer’ is a beautiful song and inspirational song that lingers after you hear it in the most lovely way. It was originally recorded in English by Celine Dion and, separately, in Italian by Andrea Bocelli. The song was written for the 1998 movie, Quest for Camelot. Celine and Andrea later came together to record a very famous duet version that blended their voices together to create musical magic. Almost a decade after Celine Dion’s single version made the top 100, she released a new duet version with Josh Groban that also made the top 100 in the United States. The timeless musical prayer performed by these talented singers will give you chills. Chills from both the beauty of the song and the beauty of the lyrics. I pray You’ll be our eyes And watch us where we go And help us to be wise In times when we don’t know Willie and Katharine’s version is absolutely beautiful. The song will even make you teary-eyed if you’ve experienced that overwhelming feeling of fear or uncertainty and knowing you can just give your worries to God. I’m sure each night Willie performs on American Idol, he surrenders his nervousness to Him. I know I would have to! It only took a couple of octaves and five words for the first chair to turn on The Voice. Kenize Wheeler, a country singer earns a rare four-chair turn with, ‘Don’t Close Your Eyes.’ And it’s no wonder, Kenzie Wheeler’s voice is a mix between Jon Langston and Keith Whitely--the artist of the song he sang! Kenzie, born and raised in Florida cut his teeth on country music thanks to his mother’s love for the genre. “Growing up listening in the car and my mom would always play CDs in the living room on our old stereo, so that’s kind of where it came from. Since I was little, I’ve always loved country music,” he said. He didn’t take music seriously until his friends and family pushed him to pursue this amazing talent no one knew he had until after a fun night of Karaoke. His raw talent blew everyone away. So every Friday night Kenzie sang and eventually gained fans. His career in music was confirmed when he was given the opportunity to open for Charlie Daniels and Craig Campbell. When the opportunity arose to audition for The Voice, all doors were opened! Kelly Clarkson was the first coach to turn around, and she was so excited at the prospect of working with Kenzie that she remained on her feet throughout the rest of the song and all the impassioned speeches from the other coaches. And there was a lot of debating among the coaches as each one begged Kenzie to choose them. Kelly used her sole ‘block’ to keep fellow coach Blake out of the running. (And she wasn’t the only coach trying to block Blake!) Blake still took the opportunity to compliment Kenzie’s talent and hairstyle, and he called him a unicorn. Blake also campaigned heavily against Kelly. Kenzie was mostly quiet as the coaches all fought for him to join their team. It was quite the nailbiter, but ultimately he made his decision. No doubt, no matter who coaches him or whether he wins the show, this won’t be the last we see of Kenize Wheeler! "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms." 1 Peter 4:10

If there’s one thing Carrie Underwood knows how to do, it’s how to capture millions with her faith in our amazing God and of course, her voice. Carrie is one of the most iconic performers in country music. She got her start on American Idol so it’s no surprise that hopeful singers who audition for shows like The Voice choose her songs. This includes idol hopeful Alyssa Wray singing, ‘Something In The Water,’ before sharing a duet with Katharine McPhee. Like Carrie, Katharine also was born into fame on the stage. She was the runner-up on the fifth season of American Idol. Katharine’s first self-titled album was blessed by God’s hands as it stayed at number two on the Billboards in 2010. Since then, she’s released several other albums too. This inspiring singer also created a hybrid career as a singer and actress! But enough about Katharine. Let’s talk about this duet. Alyssa Wray is a 19-year-old attending Northern Kentucky University. She is majoring in music theater but opted to put her voice to use when she took the plunge to audition for American Idol. After she made it onto the show, she voiced her thoughts on Twitter. "You guys, I can’t believe it’s here. Not gonna lie I’m a little nervous...but I can’t wait to share tonight with you all,” she wrote. But that’s only because she gets to sing for millions and sing with one of her mentors, Katharine. What happens next on stage is nothing short of amazing, astounding, and stunning. After Alyssa performs Carrie Underwood’s song, the duo transitions into a magical performance of Whitney Houston's 'I'm Your Baby Tonight.' It’s as if the pair had meant to sing the song together. They received a standing ovation from viewers, judges, and fans alike! Judge Lionel Richie captured what we were all thinking, “Watching the two of you together was like trying to keep a cap on a volcano!” We agree with you Lionel, we certainly couldn’t agree more! Can Alyssa top this performance? We think so, she was born for this! “I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations” Psalm 89:1.

Take a trip back in time with this a cappella rendition of ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’ from Peter Hollens and Adam Chance. This classic song was written by John Denver back in 1971. After its release, the nostalgic song became an instant hit. Countless covers later, this song has officially cemented itself in musical history. The entire tune is an ode to the great state of West Virginia and you cannot help but picture those scenic skylines as you listen to the lyrics. “Almost heaven, West Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River Life is old there, older than the trees Younger than the mountains, blowing like a breeze” Peter Hollens became an instant social media star when he started to post a cappella cover songs of our favorite tunes such as ‘Mary Did You Know’ and ‘You Raise Me Up.’ Many of his videos went viral and now it’s his full-time job to make incredible a cappella musical arrangements of popular songs and powerful originals. Adam Chance is another a cappella sensation. You may recognize him as a member of Home Free, an a cappella group that won the fourth season of The Sing-Off on NBC in 2013. Today, these two distinct voices are coming together for a unique performance of ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads.’ “Country roads, take me home To the place I belong West Virginia, mountain mama Take me home, country roads” As I hear these words, I’m instantly transported back in time. What a sensational rendition of this beloved classic.

American Idol hopeful Alyssa Wray inspires the judges with her heartfelt rendition of ‘Greatest Love Of All’ by Whitney Houston. This 1985 classic was actually a cover of George Benson’s 1977 song, ‘The Greatest Love Of All.’ Whitney’s rendition was an immediate success and reached number one on the top of the music charts. Decades later, it still remains a beloved music staple. “I believe the children are our future Teach them well and let them lead the way Show them all the beauty they possess inside Give them a sense of pride to make it easier” We first met Alyssa Wray when she performed ‘I Am Changing’ by Jennifer Hudson during her first American Idol audition. The moving performance even brought tears to Lionel Ritchie’s eyes. Since that moment, this small town star has broken out in a big way. Now, she’s made it all the way to the top 16 and she’s leaving everything on the stage. Just listen as she belts out the words to ‘Greatest Love Of All.’ “Because the greatest love of all Is happening to me I found the greatest love of all Inside of me” Guest judge Paula Abdul had rave reviews for the rising star. “You’re magnetic. There’s no doubt about it, you look like you’re a seasoned pro up there.” And we have to agree. A small-town country boy is now taking the national stage. If you’re a fan of The Voice, then you know Avery Robertson wowed the judges during his audition this season. This country crooner turns all four chairs with, ‘Tim McGraw’s If You’re Reading This’ song. But Avery didn’t do what most anxious singers do. He didn’t try to exercise and show off every octave of his voice. He didn’t scream the lyrics, or belt out any extra tunes. He didn’t even run around the stage to capture the attention of millions watching. He simply let his God-given gift of song fill the air. As if he was taking a deep breath or settling into his favorite comfy chair, Avery was calm, relaxed, and gave the audition the best of his ability. Granted, his audition was during the blind performances but here’s the thing, the way he performed turned all four chairs of the judges. The first to approve of his performance was John Legend, followed within mere seconds by Kelly Clarkson. Both John and Kelly knew instantly Avery had the talent. Eventually, Blake Shelton gave his approval vote and as the last few notes of the song hung in the air, Nick Jonas voted in favor of Avery too. So, what’s a young country singer to do when he has his choice of all four judges to coach him to the finish line? Does he pick Kelly with her experience as a country singer who crossed over into pop? Or what about the country boy, Blake Shelton? After all, Blake’s songs have topped the country music charts for years with lyrics and beats that resonate with his fan base. It appears that Avery didn’t even consider pop icons, Nick and John. Even though he never dreamed of winning over all four judges, Avery went with Blake as a strategic move to win the show! Whether or not he wins this season of The Voice, there is no doubt, we won’t be seeing the last of Avery. His incredible voice is a gift that needs to be shared with this world! Check out these two talented street performers who sing a beautiful duet just moments after meeting each other for the first time! The song they perform together is ‘Make You Feel My Love’ by Adele. “When the rain is blowing in your face and the whole world is on your case I could offer you a warm embrace to make you feel my love When the evening shadows and the stars appear, and there is no one there to dry your tears I could hold you for a million years to make you feel my love” Such incredible voices from these two! As they are performing, people are gathered around and captivated by the pair, taking videos on their phones of the musical treat. The female in the video is Allie Sherlock, and she shares videos on her YouTube page of her street performances around Ireland. The guy who is playing the guitar is named Seamus Harty. “This is the 1st time I met this guy playing on the streets in Cork and we decided to do a few songs together,” writes Allie in the caption of this YouTube video. “What a voice. What a song. Wonderful!” writes someone on YouTube after watching the video. “Wow this is so powerful! Your voices blend so well together! Hope to see you live someday!” comments another person online. Allie and Seamus are clearly very talented, and their wonderful voices are ones that you could listen to all day long! May they both continue to use their musical talents to bring smiles and joy to those around them. 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.
