A Surprise Platypus (Part 2 of 2) | Creation Moments Minute

A Surprise Platypus (Part 2 of 2)

On today’s Creation Moments Minute we continue looking at the crazy, mixed-up platypus from Australia.

More than two hundred years after scientists in London first started looking at the duckbill platypus from Australia, the creature continues to amaze scientists. Recently researchers discovered a surprising new ability the platypus uses to find food. It seems that the nerves in the platypus's skin, which relay the sense of touch, are also able to sense electricity.

Every time we or any living creature use a muscle, a tiny electric current is generated. When the shrimp that the platypus eats flick their tails, they generate about 200 millionths to 1,000 millionths of a volt of electricity. That small amount of voltage is enough to enable the platypus to sense and locate lunch.

Clearly, the duckbill platypus is one of the most unusual creatures God made on the sixth day of creation week.

Brain Talk | Creation Moments Minute

Brain Talk

There is a huge difference between computers and the human brain, as we will see on today’s Creation Moments Minute.

While the computer transmits information using electricity, the brain communicates its information using powerful chemicals. Let's say that you accidentally touch a hot pan on the stove. In less than two tenths of a second, millions of reactions take place while your brain performs a huge number of operations. As a result, you pull your hand away from the hot pan – very quickly!

Nor does the brain have set paths for messages, like a computer. If we can use computer language for a moment, the brain writes its own programs, doing many complicated tasks of which you and I are never aware.

We know that the computer is the product of careful design, but to argue that the much more complex human brain is an accident of nature makes very little sense!

Liquid Air Mimics God's System (Part 2 of 2) | Creation Moments Minute

Liquid Air Mimics God's System (Part 2 of 2)

On today’s Creation Moments Minute, can liquid air help reduce the number of abortions?

After researchers learned how to use liquid air to help premature babies stay alive, they had to admit that if infants can survive at only 20 weeks, some hard questions are raised about current abortion practices. Yet, pro abortion feeling is so strong that researchers felt they had to disown the idea that they wanted even younger premature babies to survive. The development of liquid air could make it more difficult for some to support abortion as we now know it.

It has taken humans thousands of years of medical development to come up with an advance that begins to mimic the way an unborn infant gets oxygen. This makes it even more difficult to believe that mindless nature created the womb and much easier to believe that the womb is the creation of a loving and wise Creator.

Liquid Air Mimics God's System (Part 1 of 2) | Creation Moments Minute

Liquid Air Mimics God's System (Part 1 of 2)

Liquid air isn’t something you only see in science-fiction movies. Find out more on today’s Creation Moments Minute.

Before birth, a developing baby breathes amniotic fluid, which delivers dissolved oxygen to the lungs. When very premature babies are born, they often have difficulty breathing because their lungs lack a substance that enables them to get oxygen from the air. The result is often chronic lung disease or other permanent damage.

But now researchers are testing something that is popularly called "liquid air." This liquid, a perfluorocarbon, can carry oxygen to the immature lungs of the infant who is not yet ready to breathe air, much like the amniotic fluid the child would be breathing had it not been born prematurely. Animal tests suggest that infants who were born after only 20 weeks of gestation could be helped to survive through the use of this "liquid air."

More about liquid air next time.

The Armored Virus | Creation Moments Minute

The Armored Virus

Scientists in Darwin's day thought single celled microbes were simply bags filled with some kind of jelly. Were they right? Find out on today’s Creation Moments Minute.

Viruses that infect bacteria, called bacteriophages, inject their DNA into bacterial cells with something that looks like a syringe. Some bacteriophages even make a unique outer shell out of protein. The protein must be folded and assembled and then changed into an interlocking pattern to form this protective armor. As one scientist put it, "People don't know how to make proteins, let alone fold, assemble, and then transform them into something like this."

Contrary to what Darwin's followers still believe, there is no simple form of life. That's because there is a Creator, and He will provide all who follow Him with salvation, and then He will give us spiritual armor to protect us from our spiritual enemies.
