Mark Schultz - Different Kind Of Christmas

The story behind this song is that Mark Schultz' wife's father passed away in 2014. Christmas 2014 rolled around, and Mark's wife said "it's a different kind of Christmas this year." That inspired Mark to write this song, along with Cindy Morgan.

My own father-in-law passed away in March 2015, so I can relate to the song. There are some pictures of him scattered throughout this video. He was a good man, humble, honorable, upright, and selfless.

Dara Maclean - Blameless

A majestic and meaningful song by Dara Maclean, called "Blameless", from her album "Wanted." She co-wrote the song along with Paul Mabury.

Matthew West - A Christmas To Believe In

This is a single that Matthew West wrote and recorded for a compilation CD called "A Christmas To Believe In", released in 2014 exclusively at Family Christian stores. Somehow I missed it last Christmas, but I've heard it now, and it's a lovely and nostalgic song. I can only listen to "Walkin' In A Winter Wonderland" so many times; I need to hear this kind of Christmas music.

Oh, I'm in this video, the kid with the big ears. My wife is also in it, she's the pretty blonde with the Guatemalan girls.

Selah - One Thing I Know

This is the first Selah song I ever heard, back in 1999. The song is called "One Thing I Know", from their debut album "Be Still My Soul", back in the days when Nicol Smith (now Nicol Sponberg) was still with the group (although she has no vocal parts on this song; all of the vocals are done by her brother Todd Smith.) Wonderful song; I can think of many people I would like to sing this song for (in fact, I did sing it in church for someone specific, and I let them know in advance that I was singing it for him, although I did not let the congregation know that.) There are so many hurting people out here that need to here the message of this song. "God will take away your pain if you choose to let it go."

Written by Jason Alan Whitmore and Joel Lindsey.

Nicol Sponberg - He Leadeth Me/Never Once

Nicol Sponberg (formerly Nicol Smith) was a lead singer in the popular Christian group Selah. She got married and left the group to support her husband's ministry. But she continued to record as a solo artist. She recently released an album called "Awake My Soul" containing classic Christian hymns. Some are done in the tradtional style, and some are modernized, or a combination of the two. Very well done.

This is one of my childhood favorite hymns, "He Leadeth Me". She combined it with Matt Redman's song "Never Once", and the two songs go together very well. I just wish more of the focus was on "He Leadeth Me"; she only sings the first verse and the chorus of the hymn, but she spends a lot more time on "Never Once", a modern non-hymn. Rather than repeat the chorus of "Never Once" I would rather have heard another verse of "He Leadeth Me." But I'm nitpicking.

The multiple songwriters are listing on the opening slide.
