Husband And Wife Sing Nostalgic 'Edelweiss' Duet

Most have heard Captain von Trapp and Maria’s beautiful duet of “Edelweiss,” but listen as this modern-day husband and wife sing the nostalgic song in their own unique way!

The Sound of Music came out in 1965, and it is televised in December each year. With a few exceptions for dramatic purposes, the musical tells the true story of The Von Trapp Family, the meeting and relationship of Georg and Maria, and the family’s escape from Austria after it was taken over by Germany and the Nazi army.

“Edelweiss” is sung at two critical moments in the film. First, Captain von Trapp sings it with his children, Maria, Max, and a female friend looking on. This is the point at which Captain von Trapp and Maria realize that they are falling in love. It is performed again at a large concert—the place of their daring escape. Captain von Trapp is in despair over what’s ahead for his country and he’s sad, though convicted, to leave. These are pivotal and emotional moments for the two.

These performances are moving and impactful, and, evidently, they made an impression on Michael and Ellen Haygood who stated, in this post, that “Edelweiss” is one of their favorite songs! After a community theater production of The Sound of Music, Ellen reported that they decided to do their own version of the classic.

Their performance has a more American and less European bent, with the banjo added to the guitar. In case you’re wondering, an edelweiss is a mountain plant that has wooly, white leaves around small flowers. But, the mountains in this performance are the Ozark Mountains instead of the Alps. There is more twang and less formality here as well. Nonetheless, Michael and Ellen perform the song beautifully!

That’s not surprising, though. If you live in the midwest, the name “Haygood” may be familiar. After all, The Haygoods have been a mainstay on the Branson, Missouri music scene for nearly 30 years. What’s more, Ellen (Peterson) Haygood comes from a musical family herself, and she appeared on American Idol way back in 2015 before ever becoming a Haygood!

Michael and Ellen met and bonded in Branson over their faith and their love of music and aviation. Are they not the most adorable couple! The Sound of Music’s Georg and Maria are lookers, but Michael and Ellen are seriously cute, too!

Michael and Ellen, please keep singing and bringing to us all of your favorites!

“May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the Lord.” Psalm 104:34

Guitar-Playing Teen Sings 'I Got Saved'

Listen to this talented guitar-playing teen sing a beautiful rendition of ‘I Got Saved.’

If the girl in the video looks familiar to you, that’s probably because you’ve seen her singing alongside her family. Peyton Detty performs with her younger sister as ‘The Detty Sisters’ and with their mom as ‘The Detty Family.’

God called this faithful family a few years ago to spread His Word through music. Although this took them outside of their comfort zones, Amber Detty and her girls began sharing their lovely voices with the world.

They have about 130,000 subscribers on Youtube both from their small, Ohio hometown and from across the country. It’s easy to fall in love with this adorable family!

At the young age of 13, Peyton Detty can play guitar like a pro and sing like she’s had a lifetime of vocal training! Children with outstanding talents like this are such blessings, and Peyton continuously uses her gift from God to share His love.

Beyond the family’s impressive covers and music videos, they also post shorter music clips on TikTok — like this video of Peyton singing ‘I Got Saved.’

The gospel group, Selah, originally released ‘I Got Saved’ about five years ago on their album titled, Unbreakable. The group tends to cover Christian classics like, ‘You Raise Me Up,’ and they also create new inspiring worship music just like ‘I Got Saved.’

A small section of this song’s lyrics shows just how powerful their music can be.

Since then I walk in forgiveness
All of my guilt was erased
The chains of the past
Are broken at last

Songs like this are great for worshipers of all ages — Peyton shows us just that. Keep sharing your song and His word, Peyton! You are blessed with such a beautiful gift for music.

That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved. For with the heart man believes to righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made to salvation. Romans 10:9-10

Flight Attendant Raps During Flight Delay And Everyone On Board Cheers

Check out this fun video of a flight attendant rapping during a flight delay and everyone on board cheering for her after her creative performance!

“How do you keep airline passengers from getting grumpy during a delay?” reads the caption of the YouTube video. “One Southwest flight attendant in Phoenix, Arizona had a brilliant creative stroke and rapped her pre-flight instructions to a seemingly appreciative and captive audience.”

Steph Green is a flight attendant whose creativity and upbeat energy is truly captivating. And she put together such a fun way to deliver information that is usually ignored by plane passengers.

“Carry-on bags under the seat on the floor, and there’s an overhead compartment where they can be stored. Fasten your seatbelts, make ‘em nice and tight. You better do ‘em good, we’re gonna check if they’re right. Seat back and trays, lock it up right. Pretty soon the ground will be out of sight,” raps the flight attendant.

After this Southwest flight out of Phoenix, AZ was announced that the plane would be delayed due to multiple issues, Steph was still able to bring some smiles to her passengers with her rap!

“Are we ready to go? What do you say? Welcome aboard SWA!” she says.

The passengers are clapping along to her rap and then loudly cheering for her when she finishes up her performance.

“It's nice to see people trying to make the best out of a bad situation, props for her,” comments one person on YouTube after watching the video.

“That would really ease my nervousness for flying. She was good!” writes another person.

Way to go, Steph! Your ability to turn an unpleasant flight delay into something that brings people joy is truly special. May we all go about our days looking for ways to bring smiles to others and look on the bright side of things.

Unity

I had a vision during worship and saw a huge sphere of boxes and in each box a fire was lit and each box opened, and joined together to make a large fire of unity. Then from above the light of God came down and began to release the people into a spiral movement, but beyond that, they became sent ones.

'Over The River' Pentatonix Featuring Lindsey Stirling

Listen to this amazing performance of ‘Over The River’ by Pentatonix and featuring Lindsey Stirling.

“Over the river and through the woods to grandmother's house we go
The horse knows the way to carry the sleigh through white and drifted snow
Over the river and through the woods, oh, how the wind does blow
It stings the toes and bites the nose as over the ground we go”

Pentatonix recently released an epic cover of ‘Over The River,’ and their rendition of the haunting folk song features all five members of the group. The talented violinist Lindsey Stirling is also featured in the song.

In the video, Pentatonix sounds absolutely phenomenal, and the costumes and lighting for the music video add such great drama to the performance. It is not just a treat for the ears but for the eyes as well!

The violin and cello sound wonderful together, and the way their voices blend with one another sounds so mystical and full. Pentatonix never ceases to amaze! And many of their fans online agree.

'Snake Charmer' Ice Skating Routine Earns Duo First Place

Watch and be wowed by this gifted skating couple as the duo earns first place with their performance of their routine titled “Egyptian Snake Charmer!” You may have a whole new appreciation for the repellent reptiles afterward!

Evan Bates, 32, and Madison Chock, 29, play the charmer and the snake, respectively, in this free dance that is both visually stunning and athletically impeccable. From the first moments of guarded interaction between charmer and snake until the final friendly pose, the skaters’ every expression, gesture, and move is on point!

Madison wears a gold, green, and brown costume that shimmers and mimics scales; long, transparent pieces with a texture not unlike snakeskin dangle down her legs. Her black hair is fixed in an intricate braid, and she uses her dark eyes to warn and welcome her charmer partner. While Evan’s attire isn’t as glitzy as Madison’s, he plays his part well. We see him dodge the snake’s bite (a la skate blade) before winning over the slithering serpent.

The precision with which the two skaters execute every single motion and maneuver is astounding! And, each one serves a purpose in the story being shared. Check out what happens just short of 4 minutes into the video. The music speeds up, the mood changes, and the couple picks up the pace through the end of the routine. It is mesmerizing!

Madison and Evan have been skating together since 2011, and they’ve won a slew of medals in their years together. In this video, they are competing for the 2020 U.S. Championships at the Greensboro Coliseum. In the end, they capture the title for the second time, having won the same contest for the first time in 2015.

The couple became more than mere partners on the ice in 2017 when they became a couple in the romantic sense. Madison and Evan work and live together, and, during COVID, they spent a lot of time together. When folks started noticing how well they got along even with all that togetherness, they started asking the couple for couples’ counseling. “It’s pretty funny that people are turning to ice dancers for relationship advice. We’ve heard that ice dance is really like a marriage. I guess that must be true since we’ve got married couples asking for advice,” said Evan.

As the performance ends, and the two take their bows and collect the stuffed snake that’s been tossed onto the ice, we hear commentators share that all of the top contenders in the competition are trained by the same training team and at the same Canadian facility. They add that the skaters all get along well and co-exist in a friendly, fun training environment. So, maybe, Madison and Evan relate well to everyone!

Whatever the case and however it all works, we are just glad it does!

“Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor’s crown except by competing according to the rules.” 2 Timothy 2:5

Dance Group Performs Mind-Blowing 'Snow White' Routine On Britain's Got Talent

This is a jaw-dropping audition that will be unforgettable for all who watch. A dance group performs a mind-blowing “Snow White” routine on Britain’s Got Talent.

At the start of the video, we see the evil queen holding a mirror of snow white, and the mirror “breaks” as the dancers are revealed. All of the men and women are wearing black and silver. They move so quickly, it is incredible the strength and effort it must take to be in sync and stay on pace. Suddenly, Snow White and the seven dwarfs appear. The queen and Snow White” fight” each other. Everyone dances and does fight-dancing the Queen’s followers and the dwarves. At the end of this theatrical performance, Snow White wins, putting one fist in the air and all the others fall to the ground as smoke arises.

The dance team called “The Addict Initiative '' hugged and celebrated their performance afterward. The judges rave about them and tell them how fantastic they are. They each affirm their efforts and talents. The judges tell them that they deserve to be in the finals. The last judge says, “We’ve seen some bad, we’ve seen some good, and now we’ve seen you. You are incredible.”

I love how these young people dance with all that they have within them. They not only are moving, but they are telling a story. They are theatrical in nature. This dance crew reminds us that we have a great opportunity to work together with others. God has gifted us with community and we can accomplish more together than apart.

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:24-25

2 Police Officers Bravely Enter Frozen Lake To Save Dog

If you want to see some real-life heroism, check out this video. 2 Police officers bravely enter a frozen lake to save a dog.

At the start of this clip, we see two men in freezing cold water. One of them is hanging on to a large log as he swims towards this dog. The poor animal was trapped among the frozen waters, needed some direction, and help to get out so he would survive. The man closest to the dog finally gets a hold of him. He pushes the animal towards his co-worker and they all exit the frosty waters swiftly.

This poor animal could have died from hypothermia, however, there is a sweet sacrifice of these two brave men who got uncomfortable to go rescue the dog in the frozen waters. The lake is in Huesca, Spain. There is snow covering the ground and these police officers decided to do what they do best sacrifice. I cannot imagine how cold the water must have felt. Would their skin be burning from the frozen sensation? Did they get sick afterward? In the moment of need, these men did not think of their own desires, but of saving the dog.

We too can have selfless attitudes through Christ. Jesus Himself entered into our world to rescue us from eternal death because of our sins. However, we are freed and redeemed. Because of the Holy Spirit’s work in our hearts, we are capable of loving others with the same sacrificial love of Jesus.

“And walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” Ephesians 5:2

The Voice Contestant Lana Scott Sings 'Something In The Water' By Carrie Underwood

America got to hear a little about the Gospel through an incredible song and you don’t want to miss this performance.
The voice contestant Lana Scott sings, ‘Something In The Water’ by Carrie Underwood.

Carrie’s song was released in 2014 and it’s been a number one hit ever since. The song is about the joyous, uplifting moment when you have that ‘a-ha’ powerful moment of accepting Jesus Christ.

I followed that preacher man down to the river
And now I'm changed
And now I'm stronger
There must've been something in the water

The most beautiful part of the song is the tie in to Amazing Grace which Lana sings so beautifully at the end of the song.

Amazing grace How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I'm found
Was blind, but now I see

The audience went wild after her performance ended. Lana has been competing and working her way through The Voice with classic hits tied into her strong faith. She decided to pursue country music to honor her late grandmother Lana whom she was named after. Her grandmother had encouraged her to sing and pursue a career in music ever since she was a little girl. After Lana graduated from Berklee College of Music and Savannah College of Art and Design. After she graduated from college, she accepted a singing contract on a cruise ship. During her time on the ship, she got to travel to beautiful destinations before she decided to audition for The Voice.

No matter whether or not she wins the competition, she already has fans who love her music and her strong faith in Jesus. Some of her fans said they can’t wait for her first album to come out. Her performance was absolutely flawless! One of her fans said, “Lana is holding down her own and is coming out swinging every week. She's been doing an amazing job. She also looks stunning in that beautiful silky outfit.” Another said, “She has really grown on me. Her tenacity and ability to take on the big songs impress me. She can tell a story and that forward sound rides high on the airwaves. She could be a big country star.”

We couldn’t agree more! Lana, your music choice was a beautiful way to share the Gospel and your faith in Jesus while showing the world your beautiful voice. We’re cheering for you while saying ‘Amen’ to God’s amazing grace.

“And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38

16-Year-Old And Friends Perform “I Sing Of Christmas”

For Christians, Christmastime is clearly about celebrating the birth of Jesus, but in this video featuring 16-year-old Reese Oliveira and a group of talented friends performing “I Sing of Christmas”—well, we are reminded of much more than just His birth!

As the video begins, a pair of young hands hang a crimson ornament on a Christmas tree festooned in gold, green, and red. The lead performer, Reese Oliveira, appears from behind a gold drape and begins singing. She finishes the first verse, the curtain opens, and we now see a manger scene with a duo of child actors and one cute, if a bit “stiff,” baby doll depicting the holy family.

Reese, in modern-day clothing, bends down to the manger and continues singing. With the beginning of verse two, several others join those already on stage. There is a twirling star, reminding us of the one the shepherds followed. However, the lyrics of the song Reese sings go a bit further. The words also remind us to be a light in a dark world when we are called to do so.

There is a triad of handsome wise men, and a shepherd who might just have his hands full with three of the cutest tutu-clad sheep in the valley! A choir of kids, who appear to be anywhere from 5 to 17, back up Reese on the song’s bridge. Their beautiful, smiling faces reflect the joy that Christmas brings to the world!

The final vignette shows Reese presenting gifts to three cherubs in pajamas. One is the ornament we saw at the start—a cardinal. Reese sings of how the red ornaments hanging on our trees serve as expressions of how Jesus’s blood was shed on the cross at the end of His earthly life. The entire cast and choir returns for the final chorus, which goes as follows:

I sing shepherds and wisemen, God’s love divine
Miracles, teachings, His gospel sublime
I sing of Him…Beginning and End
Oh I sing of Christmas, my King, my friend.

Reese is the eldest of five children in her Utah family, and she is an abundantly talented young lady. Reese has an impressive resume of vocal, dance, and musical theater accomplishments and experiences. Her acting and singing friends are delightful as well.

Suzanne Hodson is the writer of “I Sing of Christmas,” which may be new to you. It was written in 2020. Suzanne wrote on her Facebook post that she wrote the song at a time that was especially challenging. Suzanne wanted to write a song of praise and joy for Jesus, because He is the one who brings light, love, and hope to the world. Amen, Sister!

“I Sing of Christmas” may one day be a classic Christmas song not only for its beautiful melody, but for its truest of words!

Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. Luke 2:11
